University Computing Centre (SRCE)

University of Zagreb University Computing Centre – SRCE was founded in 1971 within the University of Zagreb, with the purpose to enhance the implementation of information technologies in the academic community as well as in Croatia in general. While it is the oldest infrastructural institution of the academic and research community in the area of application of information and communication technologies (ICT), SRCE is the key institution in planning, designing, construction, and maintenance of the computing, data and information infrastructure, the e-infrastructure for Croatian A&R community. SRCE continuously maintains stable, reliable and high quality operations of the e-infrastructure, ensuring its connection with the related European and global e-infrastructure and provides consulting and educational support to the members of the academic and research community. SRCE is expert centre for ICT and centre for education and support in the area of ICT application.

The main focus of the E-learning Centre is to provide accessible and sustainable support and to higher education institutions, teachers and students in use and application of new technologies into teaching and learning, ensuring and providing generally accessible e-learning platform and ensuring joint/centralised resources required for application of e-learning and finally, but not less important, promotion and dissemination of information about e-learning. The E-learning Centre Team supports users in the process of the implementation of e-learning technologies in the educational process. The team provides help to teachers in the preparation and maintenance of e-courses, organises training for teaching staff in e-learning technologies and supports students in the virtual environment. Important part of the E-learning Centre work is oriented towards development of VLE system Merlin which is based on system Moodle and is connected to Information System of Higher Education Institutions (ISVU), e-portfolio system Mahara and webinar system based on Adobe Connect. Significant work is focused of research and development of innovative methods on teaching and implementing them into VLE Merlin so that it is available to all the teachers and students. SRCE has been actively participating in international projects in the area of information technology for more than 30 years.
